Many Teens Knowingly Ride With Drunk Drivers.

Sheehey-Church’s own son died in a crash even though riding with a drunk driver. At 18 years older, my son Dustin made that choice to find yourself in an automobile with an underage drunk and drugged driver, she said. That driver dropped control of the automobile going at a high rate of velocity and went over a cliff and crashed into a river. Although he was sober and wearing his seat belt, Dustin died from drowning. In 2013, Sheehey-Church said, 378 kids ages 15 to 20 were killed as passengers of a drinking driver, and 53 % of deaths were a total result of riding with an underage drunk driver. Parents have to prepare their children on ways to deal with this predicament, said Robert Turrisi, a professor of biobehavioral health with Penn State’s Avoidance Research Center.‘Better identification of the group of children who have just crossed in to the ‘unhealthy’ pounds category is vital for early intervention which will hopefully prevent not only a childhood of improved health problems, but also what often becomes an ongoing fight through adulthood with life-long issues now.’ Related StoriesResistance to CD19 CAR T-cell therapy could be caused by CD19 splicing alterationsOutreach program raises completion of HPV vaccination series by teens in safety-net settingsBoston Children's Medical center selects Vijay G.
